Equipment
- Candle pouring pot.
- Wick holder sticks.
- Wooden spoon.
- Wick stickums and medium-sized wicks.
- Pint-sized mason jar.
Before proceeding, remove the inner seal of the mason jar lid because they’ll be no need for it then wipe the inside of the jars.
Procedure
-
Add the wicks
If the wick you purchased looks crooked, run your fingers through it to straighten it out. Carry the stickum and apply it to the metal base of your wick. Now, stick the stickum to the bottom of the jar to hold the wick in place. Do well to centre the stickum at the centre of the jar.
Now it’s time to use the wick holders. Use the wick holders to pinch your wick to also assist in holding it in place. If you don’t centre it properly, the wick might get crooked once the wax sets in.

Melt the wax
Put 1 lb of the soy wax flakes into the candle pouring pot and heat it. It is recommended to use low or medium heat so as to prevent the wax from getting too hot. Once the wax is in the pot, stir regularly so that the heat is evenly distributed to all parts of the wax. When it has properly melted, you’ll realize that the once white wax now looks slightly yellow.

Adding the colours and scent
Once you have achieved the slightly yellow colour, add your colours. For that, you’ll either need colour chips, blocks or liquid dye. If you are using chips or blocks, chop them up into smaller pieces using a knife before adding them to the wax.
Now it’s time to add your scent. For this guide, I’ll be using warm vanilla sugar as an illustration. The recommended fragrance ratio is 1:1 i.e., 1 ounce of scent to 1 ounce of wax. Finally, stir the mixture and ensure that you have achieved the desired colour and scent.

Pour the candle
Take the pot off the fire and allow it to cool down. Before pouring the candle, ensure that the consistency is that of a Slurpee which can be achieved after leaving the mixture for 20-30 minutes.
Allow the candle in the jar to cool and solidify. It’s a good practice to leave it undisturbed for 24 hours.
Note: If after pouring the candle into the jar you notice that the colour isn’t what you wanted, don’t get worried – know that wax always looks darker in a molten state. Once it solidifies, its true colour will surface.
If you followed the steps outlined above diligently, congratulations! You have learnt how to make to make mason jars wax melt candle.
