Los Angeles auto accident: Your list of dos and don’ts

It is completely okay to feel overwhelmed and distressed immediately after a car crash. Auto accidents frequently happen in Los Angeles and often have disturbing consequences. Since California is an at-fault state, you could sue the at-fault party for your losses. The compensation will help you deal with economic losses, pain, and suffering. Before you decide on the worth of your claim, consider consulting one of the reliable car accident attorneys Los Angeles. A good lawyer can improve your chances of getting a fair settlement. Here is a list of dos and don’ts that you must follow after the accident. Young drivers are often given special discounts on their car insurance policies. This can be a good way to save money on young driver insurance policies.

    The dos

    • Call the police. Do not let the other party tell you otherwise. You have to inform the local law enforcement without any delay.

    • Call 911. If you (or anyone else) are injured, call 911 immediately. You need to seek medical attention for your injuries at the earliest.

    • Take photos. Always take photos and videos of the accident scene. This is highly important for evidence and your future claim.

    • Exchange contact info. Talk to the other driver and get their contact and insurance details. Take details of witnesses, if any.

    • Inform your insurer. You have to inform your insurer within a reasonable time, even if you were not at fault for the accident.

    • Hire a lawyer. While not legally necessary, get an attorney on your side before dealing with the insurance company.

    The don’ts

    • Admit fault. If you believe that you were at fault for the accident, keep the details to yourself. Never accept anything in front of anyone but your lawyer.

    • Run away from the scene. You may leave the scene for minor accidents, but it isn’t the most advisable thing to do. Wait for an investigating officer to arrive.

    • Engage in confrontations. When the accident happened because of the other party’s fault or negligence, you may feel it necessary to confront them. Do not do that and let the investigation happen.

    • Accept the first offer. The insurance company would want to settle your claim for as little as possible. Never accept the first offer.

    • Delay in hiring a lawyer. California’s statute of limitations allows only two years to file a car accident lawsuit. If you have a potential claim, always hire a lawyer without delay.

Finally, do not post anything on social media. The accident facts and details should be shared with your attorney and no one else.
