Checking a Notification Can End With An Accident!

John LeoBy John Leo29th August 2022No Comments3 Mins Read

Mobile phones are one of the significant factors that contribute to distraction. It is not wrong to say that using your mobile while driving can distract the driver and lead to various unfortunate circumstances. Many drivers are aware of the risks of distracted driving but still choose to make risky choices considering it is just a matter of a few seconds.

For example, you are driving at an average speed and see a notification on your mobile. Most drivers get curious to check their notifications and pick up their phone to see what it is. Reading a text may not take more than a few seconds compared to responding. However, those few seconds can also put the driver and others on the road at significant risk.

If you or someone you love is injured in a car accident due to the other driver being distracted, you can seek financial compensation. Youd Law has helped their clients get justice for their injuries and damages from personal injury accidents. Get in touch with them right away!

Checking a notification can be a distraction!

While checking your notification, you may not realize that you have traveled a long way. Moreover, within those few seconds, there are chances that a pedestrian is crossing by or an animal is walking by. Similarly, the driver may also miss seeing the signal and violate the law, putting others’ lives at risk.

Furthermore, each time you pick up your phone or take a look at your phone, you distract yourself and lose focus on driving. Focusing back on the road after checking your phone can be risky.

In such cases, you will be held liable if you are found guilty of using your mobile while driving. Even if you portray that you were just checking a notification, you will still be accountable for covering injuries and damages incurred by others.

Always Avoid Your Phone While Driving!

Safety should be your priority. No matter how experienced a driver you are, you must take all the necessary steps to protect yourself and those around you. While you cannot stop someone from texting you, you can take a few precautions to ensure you are not distracted by your phone.

    • Enable do not disturb or drive mode the moment you sit behind the wheel. Most mobile phones come with a feature that lets you set your phone on DND mode.
    • Pull over if the message is too important to read or respond to.
    • Turn off your internet connection until you are driving.
