7 Ways of better maintenance of electric motors

Different electronic equipment such as pumps, machine tools, household appliances, and blowers have electric motors which convert electrical energy into mechanical energy to power and propel the equipment. Reading this article will learn seven ways of better electric motor maintenance to avoid malfunctioning in Kenya.

The role played by an electric motor is critical and is compared to the ‘human heart’ such that when left unattended t frequently can cause malfunctioning of equipment. Below are ways on how to maintain them.

    1. Perform visual checks

Regular visual inspection is essential, such as checking whether the motor is rotating at its average speed. Observe its noise to detect if dust or any other unwanted material has attacked the motor. These checkups are critical for they can be a problem to the motor. For you to avoid high electric motor price in Kenya, visual checkup is key.

    2. Brush and commutate

Standard checkouts of parts such as brush, belt, and commutator. In most times, when an electric motor is in constant use, the brush starts to wear out while its commutator function ability reduces.

    3. Direct a motor winding test

Once you have done the checkup on various parts, it is vital to conduct winding while observing sound, smell, or burn. If in bad shape, a thorough winding up is recommended to save the machine from spoiling. The high electric motor price in Kenya that buyers pay should be the motivation that keeps the users always ready to keep the machine in good working condition. This is why winding test is advised.

    4. Check the engine lighting.

In most cases, when the electricmotoris not working correctly, you will be notified by checking the engine light as a warning that something is not in a proper working condition and needs repair or replacement.

    5. Checking of belts

It is essential to check belts of electric motor. Belts are what drive the motor. Wearing out affects them hence affecting the performance of the motors. Checking them regularly is key to the good working condition of electric motor. Changing the belt should be done regularly to facilitate the excellent performance of the motor and avoid breakdown.

    6. Look for leaks

Some of the motors have oil that acts as lubricants for the running/moving parts to reduce friction and reduce wearing out of parts. It is of great importance to always check leaks because leakage can affect the electric motor’s smooth running, hence lowering its longevity. Leaks also attract dust that can cause friction to the motor which can result to wear and tear. It is always important to check at it once or twice a week.

    7. Do bearing checks

Frequent check of bearing because it determines; vibration and sound of the motor. Bearings should be changed regularly but, if unattended to in time, can cause friction to the motor, resulting in wearing out of the motor, leading to a motor breakdown.

    Conclusion

Maintenance is the only proper way to put into practice to ensure your motors are appropriately taken care of. If you would like your motors to last longer, consider proper maintenance for their longevity and performance of the motor.
