While encountering a motorcycle accident can leave you perplexed, you must keep in mind the significance of the actions taken post the accident. Its effects do not limit themselves to just your health but also significantly affect the compensation you would receive.

Despite the safety measures you take, you could still end up in an accident due to another driver’s negligence. Thus, it became essential to be completely aware of the rights and suggested safety measures for motorcyclists in a state like Georgia. To know more in this regard, click here.

    Do’s and don’ts after a motorcycle accident

    • Move to a safe place and get medical treatment

In a motorcycle accident, the first thing to do is to get off the road, not far from the accident spot, to examine yourself and your partners, if any, for injuries. Do not remove your protective gear, as it could increase the effects of certain injuries. Give some room for yourself to breathe and reflect on what happened. Be it minor injuries or serious ones, make sure to call the doctor for an examination and necessary first aid.

    • Call the police

Remember that no matter whose negligence caused the accident, it is of utmost importance to inform the police about the accident. If the case also involves property damage, file a report, as it could help you during the further processes of making a claim and recovering the losses incurred.

    • Gather evidence and related information.

It is necessary to collect information about the other driver(s), license plate number, vehicle particulars, etc., and record vital evidence for answers to when, where, how, etc. Noticing the surrounding conditions, speaking to people who witnessed the scene, and clicking photos of the accident spot, could be great ways of documenting the situation to help better yourself to claim for the damages in case you have filed a police report.

    • Notify your insurance company.

Once you have taken a closer look at your situation and the losses caused, call up your insurer to tell them about the accident. Be clear about the circumstances of the accident and state the damages that have occurred. This will help the insurer to claim the value for your losses.

    • Contact a lawyer

While your insurer can get you a certain amount for your losses, an experienced lawyer will assist you in having a stronger estimate of the compensation. It also gives you better chances of getting fair compensation from the negligent driver’s insurer. So, be sure to give all needful information to your lawyer.
